THE KENDRICK BOWL HAS THE NET DIVIDED

It’s very hard for anyone to go on Instagram or Tik Tok without seeing a figure in a fitted cap blue, red and white leather jacket with a devilish grin strutting across a football field. It is indeed the Kendrick Lamar effect once again as his halftime Super Bowl performance has finally happened.

To get the obvious out the way, this was a halftime show like no other. This was the first time a solo hip hop artist did it. This is one of the reasons why the anticipation for this performance was at an all-time high. A lot of people even debated on whether Kdot was the right man for the job. Well, like him or not he performed, and his performance was quite the statement.

Kendrick put on a very conceptual halftime show, one that was also star studded and politically charged. He centred the show around the American game and had giant PlayStation buttons as part of his set. Samuel L Jackson played the role of Uncle Sam a voice that was somewhat of a tongue in cheek voice speaking on how Kendrick should please the masses or white America. Each segment of the performance stood for something that related to black culture. Dot also had all black dancers in American flag colours, quite fitting as February is their Black History Month. Sza popped out for some of their features and Serena Williams popped out too for a little crip walk cameo while he performed “Not Like Us”.

The performance did have mixed reviews as a big complaint was that he didn’t perform his earlier hits. Another thing that seemed to garner a lot of attention was Dots fit. The internet trolled and admired his Celine flare jeans, but the sneaker community seemed quite pleased with his choice in kicks. Dot sported the Nike DT Max ’96 and this caused a surge in the shoe’s interest. Another fire sneaker moment was Serena rocking a pair of A Ma Manière X Converse chuck 70s.

Whether you were engaged, bored or indifferent to the Super Bowl Half Time Show its quite evident that you did not take heed when Dot said “TV Off” because clearly, they were on as 126 million plus people watched, making it the highest viewed Super Bowl Half Time Show. A win for hip hop.
