5 Women In Streetwear You Should Know
The month of August in South Africa is a time we tip our hats off to the women in our lives that have made history and changed the game in more ways than one. Its only right that as Archive we pay homage to the ladies doing their thing in streetwear both locally and globally.
1. Vashti Kola
There are a lot of women one can think of when speaking on women streetwear aficionados, but to most people the name Vashtie Kola comes up when you speaking about juggernauts in the space of sneakers and streetwear. Vashtie’s talent level is limitless from directing, designing, deejaying and more. Her contribution to street culture as whole is a joy to witness. Her collaborations have been both awesome and historical as well. She was the first woman to collaborate with the Jordan brand on a special colour-way for her Jordan 2. Vahstie’s Puma capsule also went super crazy. She is definitely a style mother with a lot of offspring.
2. Teyana Taylor
When you hear the term “google me” Teyana Taylor’s face may pop up in your head. The young teen with the fire Nike dunks has grown into streetwear royalty with the most fire fits and a fire resume too. She too is a master of many traits from music, dancing, acting, filmmaking and designing. She recently collaborated on a Jordan 1 that has all the sneaker heads salivating. We tip our hats off to the rose in Harlem.
3. Yoon Ambush
It’s very hard to speak on street style and not bring up the name Yoon Ambush. This is with good reason. Ambush has cemented itself as a staple in streetwear. The collabs with Converse and Nike have all been fire and let’s not forget about the jewellery work Yoon does with Dior Homme. Yoon has definitely built a swagged-out legacy for herself and we salute that.
4. South Aah
Bringing it closer to home, South Aah is not short of amazing women in the world style and streetwear. Styled by Boogy has been putting your favourite celebrities on to dope pieces. Boogy has kicked down the doors for many modern-day stylists today and she has championed a lot of locally produced clothing too. Shout out to Boogy and all the opportunities she is presenting to the youth.
5. Kat Gordana
Kat Gordana has been making major waves and strides in the scene too. Her work on styling and video directing has been stellar. Her attention to detail and visual language is something to keep an eye on. It’s wonderful to witness her carving out her own lane at her own pace.
This a big shout out to all the ladies doing their thing in street culture. Your bold designs and take on fashion, art and music are highly appreciated. Keep creating and making history for the world to archive, celebrate and interpolate. Happy Women’s Month.
